Refill FAQ
Everything you need to know about refilling at A Sustainable Village, NYC's refill shop at 50 University Place in Greenwich Village. Still have a question? Email hello@asvrefill.com or call 646-998-4015.
How does refilling work?
Bring a clean container to the shop. We weigh it empty, you fill it with the product you want, and you pay only for what's inside. Our team is happy to walk you through your first refill. See the step-by-step guide.
Do I need to bring my own container?
Any clean container works: a jar, an old bottle, or one of our aluminum bottles. If you forget yours, you can buy a refillable bottle in the shop.
What can I refill?
Hand soap, dish soap, laundry detergent, body lotion, shampoo and conditioner, body wash, dishwasher rinse aid, multi-surface cleaner, skincare and more. Our own soaps and detergent are plant-based and made in New York.
How much does a refill cost?
Refills are priced by the ounce, with flat prices for our bottle sizes. Current in-store prices for our own products:
| Product | 12 oz bottle refill | 32 oz bottle refill | By the ounce |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hand soap | $5.00 | $12.00 | $0.44 to $0.49 |
| Dish soap | $4.00 | $12.00 | $0.39 to $0.44 |
| Linen laundry detergent | $5.50 | $12.00 | $0.52 |
| Dishwasher rinse aid | $5.00 | n/a | $0.50 |
| Fragrance-free shea & aloe lotion | $15.00 | n/a | $2.10 |
Prices for other brands vary by product. Ask us in the shop.
What do I do with empty bottles?
Bring your ASV aluminum bottle back to refill it, or return it for a $1 store credit. If you can't come in, request a return label and mail it back. We can only reuse ASV refill bottles that are empty, rinsed, dry and free of large dents. Travel and sample sizes can't be reused, so please recycle those locally. Aluminum can be recycled again and again.
