Dip: The Go-To Haircare Brand

Aside from refilling, the least wasteful format for products is bars due to their minimal packaging requirements, concentrated formulas, and lighter weight because they lack water. You may know Dip from their colorful branding; if you’ve been in ASV and asked about shampoo or conditioner, you’ve likely heard our glowing reviews. Maybe I've even invited you to feel my near-waist-length luscious locks (thanks, Dip)! With their one-bar-fits-all approach, Dip stands out from other haircare brands, both liquid and solid, by providing color-safe premium haircare that works for every hair type.

The small but mighty team of 2 describes Dip as “an environmental awareness company parading around as a damn good personal care company”, meaning they put sustainability before sales– every time. Their formula can be re-melted/molded until every bar is good to sell. Instead of creating new bottles, they give dead-stock packaging a new life. By encouraging customers to purchase their products at local refilleries and providing a store locator, Dip supports local economies and small businesses while reducing shipping emissions and packaging waste. Have a problem with a Dip product? They’ll personally troubleshoot issues with you to ensure you get the most of every product. Dip makes waste enemy #1.

On a more personal note, I was sure haircare bars didn’t work for me until I tried Dip. Every use left my hair feeling clean and moisturized, and over time, I noticed my dandruff going away. But as a college student, the big selling points were the longevity of the bars (6 months for the conditioner mini and full-size shampoo), and how little space they take up in my shared shower. I finally felt empowered to reduce my waste without sacrificing quality and convenience. The Dip bars ultimately started the “deplasticification” of my cosmetics and self-care. Over a year later, at least six of my friends also swear by Dip, and it shows!

In 2025, A Sustainable Village sold over 285 Dip Shampoo Bars (equivalent to roughly 850 bottles of shampoo) and over 140 Dip Conditioner Bars (equivalent to roughly 835 bottles of conditioner). That means together Dip and ASV have prevented over 1600 plastic bottles from entering the landfill, and that’s just our small store! Dip is preventing plastic waste by working with small businesses across the US. As an eye-catching product that really works, Dip has brought in new customers, helped Dip-loyalists find us, and modeled how ethical and sustainable business is possible.
